(Sioux Falls) Wagner Larson can take over a volleyball game. Whether it's a kill, or a block, the 6-2 senior dominates at the net.
Holly Lynch/Roosevelt Head Coach "Wagner's been playing for us since she was a freshman. We saw a lot of potential. She's surpassed expectations this year, last year she had under 200 kills going into the state tournament, this year she's at about 350 kills"
"When my team is down, I like to get excited when one of my teammates get a kill. I try to pump them up. And the same way, I like to pump the team up when I get a kill."
Larson's play drew a lot of college interest. She got that decision out of the way early, when she chose South Dakota State.
"I liked SDSU. It's close to home and I felt a connection with a lot of the girls there who are from my home state. I'm excited to go."
Wagner is the younger sister of former Rough Rider basketball star, and current Florida Gator Cody Larson. While she didn't play basketball last year, so she could play club volleyball. She's going to play hoops for the Riders this coming season. But volleyball really allowed her to carve her own path.
"I like that it's different. It kind of broke from my family range. Volleyball is different and something I love to do."
And the main goal is another state title. Roosevelt last won it when she was a sophmore two years ago.
"We've got a lot of potential and feel good that we can do it again."
