VALERIE GUTIERREZ - News Anchor

You can watch Valerie Gutierrez co-anchoring "KSFY Live in the Morning" from 5:00 to 7:00 a.m. and "KSFY Live At 11:30".

You'll also find her working within the community, participating in educational projects and other civic events.

Bringing important health issues to the community is important to her. At KSFY, Valerie's medical reporting included looking at local cancer research, cardiac care and health and wellness.

Prior to moving to South Dakota, she worked as a general assignment reporter and fill-in sports anchor for the NBC affiliate in Palm Desert, CA. Her first job as a television reporter was in Austin, Texas.

Valerie began her journalism career as a sportswriter for newspapers and magazines in Southern California. While working as a Los Angeles Times staff writer, she covered a variety of sports including the NBA Finals, Pac-10 football and basketball, Major League Baseball, professional tennis, as well as the top high school athletes in Southern California.

Valerie grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles, and later studied journalism at the University of Southern California.

Although, she's far from the west coast, she's happy to be living in South Dakota. The Midwest charm and the welcoming people make Sioux Falls a wonderful friendly place to call her new home.

In her spare time, Valerie likes to be outdoors. You'll find her running around a nature trail, or taking in a beautiful lake, river or a beach. Valerie is an avid reader, and during the snowy South Dakota winters, she loves to curl up with a good book.

Valerie loves to meet new people and to hear news about your community.

You can email her at vgutierrez@ksfy.com
