Economists are giving updated estimates of state tax collections to the South Dakota legislative committee that is finishing work on a new state budget.

Economists for the Legislature and Gov. Mike Rounds' budget office will present their estimates of tax revenues for the next 18 months on Friday.

The Legislature's Joint Appropriations Committee then will use those estimates to help write a state budget for next year. Money from the federal stimulus measure will be used to help balance the budget, but lawmakers also expect to have to cut some spending.
