You have no way of knowing this, but KSFY morning meteorologist Patrick Griesgraber and I are very close friends. Like brothers in some aspects. I have written about this previously, but Patrick is the Godfather to both of my boys, Austin and Cameron. When Mandy and I were discussing who we would want to watch over our boys if anything ever happened to us, Patrick was the first name that came to mind.
Patrick and I first met when I came to work at KSFY in 1998. He had just been moved off the weekends to the morning show. I had just come on board to anchor weekends. For the next two years, Patrick and i hardly ever saw each other or spoke to each other. It was just a result of our shifts: he was gone by noon. I worked day shift and was reporting and anchoring the weekend news at the time.
It wasn't until the last Summer of 2000 when Patrick and I really got to know each other. I had moved off weekends to become co-anchor of "Good Morning Dakota" and was also part of the original anchor team which launched "Dakota First News Today At 11:30". Patrick and I would spend a lot of hours together over the next three years. Both anchoring those shows and hanging out together outside of work. What I found was he had a similar view of life and a similar sense of humor (much to the chagrin of of other co-anchor, Meagan Dorsch).
Patrick is a good guy. He doesn't like to write a lot about himself, but I can tell you he is a fantastic dad to Matt and Tina and he is a competent, intelligent TV meteorologist. The ease with which he presents himself on the air makes me proud to watch him. He had invested a lot of time and thought into improving him TV talents and it has paid off.
I can't imagine trading quotes from Caddyshack or Fletch with anyone else. He knows those movies forwards and backwards like I do. He and I have about a thousand inside jokes that only he and I know and we spring them on each other and laugh out loud, everyone looks at us like we are weird (whichh, admittedly, we are).
But he is a good, decent man. He is a fantastic Godfahther to my boys. He does more than just claim the name; he remembers birthdays and has lunch and dinner with them. The boys just adore him. As for me, he is my friend and always will be.
I would be remiss if I didn't talk about Meagan Dorsch. Long before either of us came to KSFY, Meagan and I worked together for years at KCAU in Sioux City. We have known each other for more than 10 years. She is a fantastic individual and I truly enjoyed anchoring with her. Keep in mind, I can be fairly grumpy so I get the better end of the deal. When I took the job here at KSFY one of the things I was looking forward to was working with her again. When I found out she would be leaving, I was sad. But she is back home in Denver, close to family and doing well. I am proud of her too. I just wish she was closer.

This Day In History: The final episode of M*A*S*H aired on this date, February 28, 1983. It was the most watched television program in history.
