No More Gigglebees?

Brian laments the apparent, imminent closure of Gigglebees.

By Brian Allen

For more than 20 years, Gigglebees has been a Sioux Falls staple. Last week, I was driving down Minnesota Avenue and saw on a sign board that Gigglebees has to leave it's current location by June 1st. I was floored! This past weekend, Mandy and I took the boys there. Austin and Cameron had never been to Gigglebees and they loved it! The way Wilbur brought us our breadsticks on his bike plus all the games we could play. The pizza was so good.

When Mandy and Ilved here before, we didn't have our kids. We had a nephew who we spoiled beyond words and we took him to Gigglebees on several occasions.

Sitting there this past weekend, I felt a little old and a little sad. Kids were still there having birthday parties, so excited to be getting presents and spending time with friends and family and doing all of it at GIgglebees. The place really does have a nice little charm to it. The skee ball games, the little booth where you can turn in your tickets and get prizes. The pictures of clowns and little balloons tied everywhere. I read one of the fliers announcing the change at it said Gigglebees had been operating at that same location for 22 years now. Wow. That's a long time.

It sounds like Gigglebees has to move because the land the place currently sits on is going to be re-developed. Furthermore, it sounds like if someone doesn't buy the business, it will just close it's doors for good. I sure hope someone buys the place. It would be a shame for it to just close it's doors and be sold off piece by piece and disappear from the Sioux Falls scene for good. It sure has brought a  lot of joy to a lot of people over the years.

Gigglebees was a blast, I worked there for 2 years and even though i got paid minimum wage just about the whole time, I loved it. It is sad to see it go, a lot of childhood memories for many Sioux Falls residents and more will now rest in the rubble that is Gigglebees.
