I don't believe in numerology of anything like that but I have a set of numbers that keep appearing in my life and it happened again this weekend and it absolutely floored me. I wanted to make sure to tell you about it because I really believe it is more than just a coincidence.
First, a little background. The number of the house I grew up in was 6-2-9. My Grandfather, whom I was amazingly close with was born on June 29th....or 6-2-9. My youngest son Cameron was born on my Grandfather's birth day meaning he too is a 6-2-9.
Now, to the story: Friday night I was watching an episode of "Scott Baio is 46 and Pregnant" that I had DVR'd. In a portion of the episode I watched, Scott confesses to a Catholic nun that one of the reasons fatherhood is going to be a tough idea for him is because he had lost his father and missed him terribly. I found myself beginning to tear up. Not because of the fact I had lost my father at a young age, but because of the fact I found myself missing my Grandfather. It really hit me and washed over me. I knew I would be attending church sometime over the weekend and I silently prayed that God would somehow be able to give me a sign that my Grandfather was OK, that he was watching over all of us and knew that we were doing fine.
On Saturday, Mandy, the boys and I decided we would attend 4PM Mass at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. We usually don't attend this service but for some reason we decided we would. I walked into church remembering the silent prayer I had made the night before asking God to give me some sort of sign.
So Mass begins and the sermon is about making people feel welcome and letting them know they are appreciated. I enjoyed the sermon but it didn't speak to me as the type of a sign I had been looking for.
Then came time for the Hymn which is sung while Communion is being prepared. I about fell out of my chair when the woman singing the hymn asked the congregation to grab their hymnals and turn to the Hymn # 6-2-9. I was beside myself. Without reading anything into it it just hit me and knocked me over. I tried to stop the tears but I couldn't. What are the odds we would attend a Mass we would normally not attend and then one of the hymns they select is 6-2-9? I was amazed and for a time speechless. I firmly believe it is the sign I had prayed for.
Quote Of The Day:"Don't tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results." General George Patton.
This Day In History: Anne Frank and her family were found hiding in Amsterdam by Nazis on this date, August 4th, 1944.
Something You Should Check Out: "September" by Earth, Wind and Fire. This song was originally recorded in 1978 but has stood up to the test of time. Again, it's one of those songs that if you're in a bad mood or don't have much energy it picks you right up and makes you feel good.
