Cameron took his first steps this past Saturday! Woo hoo!

By Brian Allen

A few weeks ago I wrote about how Cameron was awfully close to taking his first steps on his own and how I worried that I would not be home when this happened.

Thank goodness it happened this past Saturday. I saw it with my own eyes and cheered him on like he was an Olympian!

Cameron has been walking with the help of a walker-type device (I call it his lawnmower because that's what it looks like to me). He has been doing that for about a week now but every time he lets go and tries to walk he would crash to the ground and let out a little cry of frustration. Mandy and I (and even Austin) have been walking with him, holding one of his hands the entire time. But this past Saturday he let go of the "lawnmower's" handles and took 10 solid steps on his own before crashing down.

"Cameron!" I yelled and then let out a whoop I am fairly certain was heard in Guam. Mandy was clapping and Austin was jumping up and down saying "Yay!" the entire time. It was a good day and I am so glad I was there to see.

The tough part about working at night is you lose that quiet, winding down family time that a lot of you might enjoy but take for granted. I try to run home every night for a QUICK dinner with Mandy and the boys but it seems like when I arrive I almost immediately have to turn around and go back to work. I get to read to the boys at bedtime and tuck them in at bedtime only on weekends and during family vacation. Lately everyone has been going to bed about 9 o'clock at night and every night at work, when I look up and see 9 o'clock on the clock, my heart falls just a little bit.

Don't get me wrong: I love my job and I love doing the news on KSFY. But there is a bit of a price that has to be paid and it's tough to come to terms with sometimes. Especially on nights when both boys are cranky and Mandy has to handle it all essentially by herself. If Austin acts up or gets rowdy and misbehaves, there's only so much I can do and say over the phone. So on the weekends, when I get to experience those quiet, winding down moments, I really do cherish them. My goal is to tell my boys I love them more than any day on the planet and I probably smother them both with too many hugs and kisses but I can't help it. As they grow I want them to both know, without any doubt, that their old man loves them with all his heart.

Quote Of The Day: "The wit makes fun of other persons; the satirist makes fun of the world; the humorist makes fun of himself." James Thurber

This Day In History: Virgina Dare became the first child of English parents born in North America on this date, August 18th, 1587.

Something You Should Check Out: I saw this and laughed until I cried. I'm going to leave it a surprise but trust me, I think you'll find it funny like I did. The true humor starts about 20 seconds in, so wait for it!

Hope you had a good weekend. Thanks to Dave Busse and Jim Bohannon for filling in. Feel free to leave a comment below or send me an e-mail by clicking here!
