It's anniversary day times two for yours truly today.
Today marks the one year anniversary of my return to report the news here on KSFY. I have told a lot of people this whenever they ask me, but now let me tell you: it is good to be back at KSFY. It's good to be among friends and professionals. There is a certain comfort level when you surround yourself with old friends and colleagues. For those of you who don't know, I used to anchor the weekend news then the morning/midday news before leaving for a couple of years. I came back last year and the year since has been very rewarding. Part of the reward has come in writing this blog and trading comments and thoughts with those of you who read. Thank you for taking the time!
The other anniversary I am celebrating today is 9 years of marriage to my wife Mandy whom I have written about in this blog (Mandy has even filled in for me as a guest blogger on this column). Mandy and I first met about 13 years ago. I was a weatherman at KCAU Television in Sioux City and Mandy worked in the sales department helping sell ad time for the station. When we determined the relationship was getting serious, Mandy made a great (and gracious) decision to quit KCAU and to go to work for a property management company so we wouldn't have the pressure of spending all of our work time and free time together. We decided it would add unnecessary pressure to the growing relationship.
Mandy is awesome and I try to tell her that as often as possible. She is a fantastic wife and an amazing mom to Austin and Cameron. She makes life worth living and she totally understands me; quirks, warts and all. She is fantastic and I always want her to know it and I want you to know it as well. She is a true blessing in my life and I would not be as successful as I am if I did not have her in my life. She is a good gal, I am lucky and I know it. In a business where people are more than ready and willing to tear you down and run you through the ringer, she is my biggest fan (and when I need it, my honest critic). Thank you Honey for being you!
Quote Of The Day: "No we don't put chips in our ears!" Actual quote heard in the Allen household today as Mandy tried to explain to Cameron you don't eat potato chips with you ears.
This Day In History: The space probe Voyager 2 was launched. It continues to explore to this day, and is now more than 7 billion miles from Earth.
Something You Should Check Out: Thinking about both of my anniversary days has me thinking about my life as a whole and remembering the good times and the not so good times. Ironically, on the drive into work I heard the song "Reminiscing" by the Little River Band. I LOVE this song. Take a listen and enjoy!
