Nanotech Means We Will Never Die

Do you want to live forever? It might be possible.

By Brian Allen KSFY

A couple of days ago I was listening to National Public Radio and they were talking to a man whose name I forget (and I am trying to find it online and can't. Doesn't that irk you when that happens?).

This man predicts by the year 2045, humans will be bio-tech organisms. He says nanotech (small computers) will be used to control people's diseases and control their health to such an extent that they will never die. These nanotech computers will be smaller than blood cells and will slow aging, destroy cancer cells before they have a chance to "take root" and invade a body.

He also says small computers will be implanted into people's brains and will allow them to always be mentally connected to the internet. As a result, people will be able to "telepathically" instant message one another and not have to use words to speak.

Wow. I sat in the car stunned. But then I thought about it for a second and realized I did not have to suspend any disbelief when thinking about the possibility. This stuff really could happen. Imagine pacemakers as little computers and then think about the actual pea-sized computers now being implanted into the brains of some Parkinson's patients to help them control their illness. As tech develops, it always gets smaller. Computers that used to fill entire buildings have the same computing capability as modern desktop computers. Think about what an I Phone can do!

This could really happen. I think it's a little freightening. Do I want to live forever? Do you? Think about how the quickly the world would become overpopulated if no one died. The increasing fight for food and water and other resources would be constant.

Also, do I really want to become so "mechanized" that mini-computers would be in control of my body? Little processors watching my heart, brain, kidneys, et cetera. What if one of those computers malfunctioned? How would it be fixed? How would you find it?

 The thought boggles the mind.

As far as overpopulation I think most people would choose to have fewer or even no children. Even if massive overpopulation occured Nanotech would also remove limitations on resources like food and water. Many people think they don't want to live forever but probably haven't considered the things they could accomplish and learn if they had centuries instead of decades. There certainly are concerns but I think the changes brought by nanotech will greatly benefit humanity.

Interesting story, although I'm not so sure it'd help in cases of rapid deceleration or gunshots, explosions however...

I believe the person that you are referring to in this blog might be Ray Kurzweil, who also developed sythesizers for Stevie Wonder. Crazy....
