Winter Blues

Tools

By Derick Fabert

During a normal week I have both Monday and Tuesdays off and during those two days I noticed something. Monday morning I got up fairly early, worked out, went to the grocery store and ran some other errands. Then Tuesday came around. Tuesday was colder and I didn't get anything accomplished. Actually I spent the entire day inside and only left my apartment to check my mail.

Last night I got to thinking about how weather affects my mood. I never get down or depressed during cold times, but I do get lazy. Rainy days I typically like to sleep with a window open (given that the wind is calm) which I find relaxing. When it is warmer and sunny I get outside, exercise, and run errands. However, I also noticed that this trend is so simple.

So if I get sleepy with a simple rain shower then when it storms I must go into hibernation, right? Well no. When there is thunder involved I'm usually pretty active. I never hope for severe weather as the damage it causes is a terrible think, but I do get slightly excited to see mother nature's fury.

What about snow. If I get lazy when its cold then I must not even think about rolling out of bed when it snows. Well that's not correct either. Snow also excites me. Once again to see Old Man Winter strike is exciting to me as a meteorologist.

I've also found that I enjoy the A/C when it gets hot and humid during the dog days of summer (OK, I've ran out of weather related catch phrases). So I'm not that hard to please. Just keep it between 40 and 70 degrees, if its going to get cold make it snow and if its gonna get warm bring on the storms, but don't make them too bad. Think we can manage that?
