Happy Birthday Leah!

By Derick Fabert

So in attempt to be a good brother, I had planned on calling my little sister last night as it was her birthday. However, I lost track of time and when I looked at my phone and added the hour for the time difference I realized I had waited too long to call my sister on her Birthday. I made sure I got to it today and I felt rather guilty calling a day late, but its better than nothing I guess. During my short conversation with my sister I decided to make this blog about her, since I realize how much I miss her.

Leah Ann was brought into the world eight years ago when I was fifteen years old. Its a little different being a new big brother when you're already in High School, but I managed. She's been a little bit of a wake up call to me. My other two siblings are both younger than me and both boys. Dealing with a girl is quite different, especially Leah, who isn't afraid to remind you that she IS a girl. You can't rough around as much and the interests are much different as I found out everytime I received the responsibility of watching her.

During one of the times I visited home while I was still in college Leah and I spent some time together. Most of which was spent watching Spongebob Squarepants. I hate to admit it, but I became slightly addicted to it. Still to this day I catch myself watching this Nautical Nonsense and laughing as if she were enjoying it with me.

While this blog doesn't have much of a story behind it, it is important to me because I can relive some of the time with my sister that I had before I left Indiana. She's definitely one of the most important people to me even if I don't talk on the phone with her too much (what do you talk to an eight year old about on the phone?). I miss watching her grow up and go off to school, but I know she's in good hands and I'll be able to see many important moments down the road.

I happened to do the same thing yesterday with my little brother. It is nice to know that I am not the only person who forgets a siblings birthday.
