Honestly I look forward to Daylight Saving Time. Yes, that's the correct way to say it, without an s on the end. I learned that a could of years ago when the state of Indiana decided to catch up with the rest of the United States and adopt DST. I spent the majority of my life not experiencing the extra hour. I was amazed at the difference it makes and I love it. Summer is great and having an extra hour makes it even better.
However there is something that should be added when you push those hour hands on your grandfather clock forward an hour. Check your smoke detectors! It takes just one minute to hold that little button down. However, you should really go out and buy a can of smoke and test them the proper way. At home, ours typically got tested weekly when Mom would burn the meatloaf (kidding Mom, I love your meatloaf). However, I still attempted to remember to push that button every once in a while.
Daylight Saving Time is just a reminder to do somethings that you do every 6 months or so. It takes just a minute to check your smoke detector and could save your family's life in the unfortunate even of a fire. I worked in fire protection during my high school and college years. Today nothing saddens me more than hearing about a family who has lost a member because of a fire when there were no smoke detectors. So please take the extra minute. I really don't want to hear one of our reporters say the smoke detectors weren't working.
