Working The Mornings

Tools

By Derick Fabert

Well if you've been up early enough this week you've noticed that I've been filling in for Patrick this week as he is on vacation. Many people tell me that they could do this shift. I'll admit getting up at 2 am is tough and going to bed in the early evening hours isn't fun either. However, I don't mind it so much.

To start, I think that the forecasting is more enjoyable. I can watch the temperatures rise through the morning and see different systems develop through the morning. Also, the amount of times that I have to be on is alot. Therefore, time flys right by. Especially when there is significant weather like yesterday with advisory, watches, and warnings.

It also helps with getting things done. I have a nice lunch break that I can use to run some quick errands to places that normally arn't available when I have a lunch break during the evenings. Also getting off at noon means I can do somethings when there arn't many people in my way. (I can be a little bit on the impatient side). I've actually gotten quite a bit accomplished in the past few days during my evening hours.

Really the reason that the mornings arn't so bad is the crew I work with. Chris Studer is a riot most of the time and the production crew just adds to the madness. There's usually a lot of laughter during commercial breaks and even during on-air times. When you're getting up this early you need to laugh and the people here make that happen alot. So working the mornings isn't so bad everyonce in a while. But man, I need a nap!
