Driving Annoyances

Tools

By Derick Fabert

I spent over 24 hours on the road during my trip home. That includes the drive there, the drive back, a drive to the lake house, and other trips around the area. During that time, I noticed that I can sometimes, ok, many times be an impatient driver. Really I think I'm a smart driver, but there were many times I questioned the abilities of the drivers around me.

I drive at one consistent speed when I'm on the interstate. Typically, a few miles an hour over the speed limit (see, I'm not perfect). What really annoys me is that other people seem to like to speed up, then slow down and like to pass me multiple times. This becomes an issue when trying to pass many semis because these people back me up and slow me down when they do. Seriously, do people know that when they're in the left lane they're supposed to be moving faster than those in the right lane?

The other thing that really sticks out in my mind is the people that don't leave the right lane when a car is attempting to merge from an on-ramp at a slower speed. I counted 6 times in which someone was put in a tough situation because of the people who wouldn't move from the right lane for just a moment so that other's could get up to speed.

I really think it just comes down to thinking about the other people around you. If someone is going faster, get out of their way when you can. It's really simple. The two I listed above were just the two that stuck out the most to me. There are others, such as semis being bullies. One more would be people that can't do two things at once. In fact, many of the people who were annoying to me on my trip were on there cell phone while they were annoying me.
