Well I think we knew that we had a wet June. Throughout the month we had flood warnings, some of which met the moderate stage. We actually did need the rain, but not the amount we got. Back in May we were still dealing with very dry conditions and watching the weather for the potential of fires. Actually, we did have a few wildfires that were quickly contained in May.
Considering that the majority of our flood warnings were for the southeast part of the viewing area, you may be surprised by this next bit of information. Pierre actually hit a record high for precipitation in the month of June this year. The old record was 7.28 inches and was set in 1968. This year we had 7.66 inches. At first I was surprised by this, but then remember what had happened earlier in the month.
During a severe storm on June 2nd Pierre got more than 3 inches during a storm in less than one hour, if I am recalling the situation correctly. The official day has the total precipitation at 3.32 inches. There were also two times that we got over an inch for a day and another two times when we got over a half an inch. Just with simple math we can get 6 inches during those five days (3+1+1+0.5+0.5=6). A few showers here and there and these 6 bigger days added up to a record month.
