Hurricane Bertha

Tools

By Derick Fabert

If you've been watching this morning, you might notice that we've got our first hurricane of the season. Hurricane Bertha was upgraded this morning after it reached hurricane strength of 74mph. Currently the wind speeds are at 90 mph. It is expected to further intensify to a category 2 storm which would put its winds over 96mph. The pressure is at 975mb and current movement is to the West Northwest at 15mph.

While if it kept on its current path it would be entering the Gulf of Mexico, its expected to take a right turn. This turn to the right will bring its path over Bermuda. It does not look like the storm will make a direct hit with the Island, but it may affect its weather in the near future. Also, as it turns it will most likely weaken back to a category 1.

I'll keep updating you from the blog on the storm. Right now it seems that its a fairly minor event. I should be able to update you daily on the situation.
