Hurricane Bertha Update 7/8/2008, 10:00 am

By Derick Fabert

Just got an update from the National Hurricane Center that has some good news. The storm has weakened back to a category 2 storm. Maximum winds are down to 105 mph with higher gusts. The hurricane force winds (74mph) currently extend out of the eye up to 30 miles. Tropical storm force winds (39mph) extend up to 115 miles away from the center of the storm.

Even better that the storm is expected to weaken even more over the next 24 hours. It's currently location is about 975 miles southeast of Bermuda. The forecasted path has not changed much and it is expect to still miss the small island. Also, the storm has slowed down leading forecasters to believe that it will miss the island even more!
