A Different Feeling

Tools

By Derick Fabert

Over the past few days I've had a few problems with my vehicle. Monday was just a simple battery problem which was no big deal and not terribly expensive. Yesterday was a different story. I've had an idiot light on for about a month for my four wheel drive. Because the light was only referencing the four wheel drive, I wasn't too concerned with it immediately, as I have no plans on using it until winter. However, I started realizing my RPMs getting a bit low while at stoplights, so I decided to get things checked out.

I was relieved to find out that the idling problem wasn't going to cost me anything. However the four wheel drive problem needed to be fixed ASAP and was going to cost me a bit more than I would have liked it. After finding out that it was something that would only take an hour and that I actually could get it covered financially I decided to get it done.

While I wasn't happy about spending the money I had a different type of feeling then you might expect. When I was in college I had a car that seemed to spend a lot of time in the shop. Everytime I would have trouble paying for the service and would have to ask my parents for help, which they always were willing to help. This time was different. While it will still be quite a burden on my finances for a while, I was able to gt it covered. So my feeling wasn't one of anxiety or anger, but rather relief that my car is now running fine and I don't owe my parents any money. I guess that was just a different feeling than what I'm used too. We'll see how I feel when the bill from the credit card company comes about.
