I was lucky to be able to watch or listen to a good amount of football this weekend. I typically listen to the Colts on the radio through the Internet when they're not on TV. They haven't been on either of the last two weeks, so I've gotten used to listening to Bob Lamey (the voice of the Colts) give the call. We've won the last two games but there was differences in the tone in Bob's voice from last Sunday to this Sunday.
I googled the definition of victory and here's what I got:
Victory (n): 1. Defeat of an enemy or opponent. 2. Success in a struggle against difficulties or an obstacle. 3. The state of having triumphed.
Both of the last two weeks, we met the criteria for 1 and 2. The score tells that story. But I really didn't feel number 3 until this weekend. Last week's win was a much luck as it was skill. This week we dominated and I felt like all three points were met. I'm smiling a bit more this Monday than I was last Monday.
Here's the thing. In the NFL it doesn't matter if you meet number 3. Only wins and losses count. College football is different. My Boilers lost 16-3 on Saturday to a hyped up Ohio State team in Columbus. The Buckeyes didn't score an offensive touchdown (the TD came on a blocked punt). Their offense sputtered throughout the day as did the Boilers'. However, I bet you if you asked a Buckeye fan if they won on Saturday, their response wouldn't be an ecstatic "yes."
