2009 Hurricane Season Outlook

You may have seen the report about the upcoming hurricane season, we did a story on it yesterday, which is the video included in this blog. The season is expected to be near normal and here are some of the numbers that are expected for this year.

14 Names Storms

4 to 7 Hurricanes

1 to 3 Major Hurricanes

Of course, the thing about hurricane season is that we could have 20 storms and 10 of them be major but if they never make landfall, then the majority of people won't really remember the season. On the other hand, if we have just one hurricane all year, but it becomes a major hurricane and hits a major US city, then we'll remember the season forever.

I look at the list of hurricane names every year. I want there to be a hurricane Derick just once, although it's not expected for at least the next six years and they probably won't spell it right anyways. Even so, I typically get to have at least one friend on the list that I can torture or have a good laugh with if thier name is used. This year, there's nothing until "M", which would be Mindy and I have a cousin Mindy.
