That Was Awesome

As I wrote in my previous post, I'm on sort-of-a mini-vacation right now. This past weekend, I was in Iowa for my in-laws family reunion. As I wrote, it was a wonderful weekend.

Now with all sports nuts, you have to find a way to sneak out of action for a bit (especially at family events---we all do it). I found a way and slipped out a few times to the back room to catch the St. Louis Cardinals in action. Those few minutes turned into about an hour (I was found-but not was not in trouble as I have a loving wife and she realizes how passionate I am about the Birds). Well, the Redbirds weren't the only thing I was keeping an eye on, I also had an eye on the US Open. I caught both of Tiger's eagles (and caught a lot of slack for this) and as they dropped, I belted out a big scream after both putts. Truly amazing shots, by a man who was basically playing on one leg.

Then on my return trip back to Sioux Falls on Sunday, (again, my wife rocks) she let me listen to not only the Cards game (all 10 innings) but then she let me listen to golf on the radio (this from a woman who hates talk radio) on my XM. Seriously, it was boring (it was golf on radio-trust me I know), but I had to know what was going on. I got home in time to catch the final five holes in between mowing, eating, and playing with our dogs and the final five holes lived up to the hype. It was awesome.

I don't get into golf, unless it's a major and unless its' someone chasing Tiger. As we all know, it went to a playoff Monday. I planned my day around it. I worked out and then went over to a colleague's house and watched the final 12 holes. The intensity, the drama, I couldn't leave my seat and it was golf. I've never planned a day around golf (unless I'm playing) but that's exactly what I did Monday. Household chores were put on hold to catch the drama. I can't say that's ever happened. But putting everything on hold was well worth it as we all know what happened. The only ending that could have topped today was some amazing shot to end it, but still, the US Open was awesome.
