Favre Watch 2009

By Tim Peters

Well here we go again....Brett Favre is thinking about coming out of retirement----AGAIN.

So far, we've heard a wide variety of rumors....from his agent to Ed Werder to beat writers. I think people out of the Favre camp are doing their best to blow smoke at everyone to keep the media away. His agent, Bus Cook, claims he has heard nothing.
"I know nothing about a meeting between Brad & Brett. You know, I've heard all the rumors everybody else has. I have no knowledge of the meeting between the two either in recent past or the near future. I just don't know of anything," Cook told the NFL Network Wednesday night.

Seriously Bus...you think we are buying that....Favre is going to be a Viking....Vikings beat writer Chip Scoggins said last week that he'd be surprised if Favre wasn't a Viking by June. Beat writers just don't pull this stuff out of their rear end.

Late Wednesday night, the Star Tribune reported that Indications are Favre is as anxious to join the Vikings as Childress is to have him running an offense that includes Pro Bowl running back Adrian Peterson and wide receivers Bernard Berrian and Percy Harvin.

While I think it would be great to see Favre play in the purple and gold next year, and get a chance to meet possibly one of the best QB's in the history of the NFL, I do have one problem with all of this. Favre signed a two year deal with the Jets, but "retired for now" after only one year. The Jets ultimately released him, giving him free reign to sign with who-ever he wanted.

This story is playing out just as it did last summer when he decided he didn't want to retire and ended up trying to force his way from the Packers to the Vikings. Favre eventually was traded to the Jets.

The other problem I have is how sick to their stomachs Vikings fans would be if #4 would don the purple and gold. Seriously??? You'd rather see T-Jack or Sage behind center than Favre??? I know he played for the enemy and beat your beloved Vikings many times...but seriously this is a huge upgrade and you all should be thrilled to have him on your side. There's a small window in the NFL when it comes to winning. The Vikings have all the pieces in place....#4 could be the deal breaker.

When Favre becomes a Viking, I hope it's his final team. I don't think I can take another summer of all these rumors surrounding his future.
