Making Time To Scrapbook

By Leslie Rupiper

One of my favorite hobbies is scrapbooking.  My friend got me hooked on it about 6 years ago when she was a consultant for Creative Memories.  At the time, I was hesitant to get started because I was single, and felt I didn't have any really exciting moments to put on paper.  But then I started going through my pictures, and realized if something is important enough to photograph, it's special enough to remember forever.  That's what appeals to me most about scrapbooking: it allows you to save things for future generations.  I thought about how much I like to look at my mom and dad's stuff from years ago.  It's fun to look at these pieces of the past.  That's what I try to remember when I put together a scrapbook.  Who will look at these pages in the years to come? How will they remember my loved ones and me when they flip through the books?

I have now done four scrapbooks, and if you do the math on when I mentioned I first started this hobby, you can see I'm about 2 years behind.  In my closet I have bags full of the year's mementos, divided up by months and seasons. One of my New Year's resolutions was to get caught up on my scrapbooks.  It's a very therapeutic hobby once I get started, but sometimes I find it hard to begin the first step because I know how much I have to do.

Last year I was lucky enough to take a trip to Ireland, so now I have that book to complete as well. Luckily, I have found a good Creative Memories Consultant here in town, and I love "R Scrapbook Store" in Sioux Falls as well. There's a lot on my plate for 2008, but  this is one resolution I can truly relish, even if it takes all 12 months of the year to get caught up.  I'll keep you posted on how it goes.
