Like a lot of us this week, I'm keeping an especially close eye on my checking account. I'm waiting to see when my Economic Stimulus Check will arrive.  I'm not really sure those words are supposed to be capitalized, but considering how important they are to a lot of people this week, I'll just go with it.  Fiance Thom found out he'll be among the first to receive his check via direct deposit, because of the digits in his Social Security Number.  As a result, I think he checked his online bank account no fewer than 10 times today.  As I'm writing this, he's still waiting.  I know that I'm in line to get a check deposited into my account a few days after him, but even knowing that it could be here by the end of the week has me anxious for its arrival.

I don't really know why I'm so excited about it.  As of now, I'm not exactly sure how I'll spend the money.  If I had my way, I would put it toward a new laptop computer.  But fiance Thom would really like me to pay some bills and use it in a fiscally responsible way.  I suppose because my debt will soon become our debt, he has some say the matter.  Since the New Year began, I feel I've already been quite good at being fiscally responsible.  So, I'm secretly hoping for a chance to buy something nice with this money.  After all, that's what President Bush wants me to do, right? I argue that my money wouldn't do much good once the credit card company gets it.  Instead, I should give my own little boost to the economy by buying....a computer.

Either way, it's nice knowing a little windfall is coming my way. I just hope my bank can handle all those online inquiries of my balance until the day it arrives.
