I think I've mentioned before that fiance Thom and I watch a fair amount of reality television. We're not proud of it. It's just what we seem to gravitate toward these days. Now that some of our favorite regular shows are on hiatus, we've gone searching for anything new we can find. One night, Thom stumbled onto "Cash Cab" on the Discovery Channel. Have you seen this? A guy goes around driving what appears to be a normal yellow cab in New York City. But this cab is anything but normal. It's wired with cameras and is a rolling tv game show. Contestants climb in thinking they'll get to their destination, like normal. But as soon as they're inside, bells and whistles go off and the ceiling lights up. Soon they learn they're on a game show and that as they travel to their destination, they can earn money by answering general knowledge questions. It didn't take long before Thom and I were hooked. He set his DVR and lately we've been watching at least 2 episodes a night. My favorite part is watching the peoples' reactions when they climb in and see the cab go crazy with lights and sounds.
If contestants get stumped while they're in the Cash Cab, they get two "shout-outs" for help. They can use their cell phones to call one person, and they can roll down the window and ask someone on the street for help on the other one. Almost every time they ask for help on the street, people are more than willing to offer answers...and it usually pays off. I've never been to New York City, but Thom has. He says the show reiterates what he experienced when he was there: that there are a ton of yellow cabs driving around and that the people are very friendly. While some might beg to differ with that opinion, from what I've seen, I'd have to agree. It makes me really want to visit the Big Apple, and take a cab ride or two. In the meantime, I'm brushing up on my trivia....just in case I'm the lucky one who catches a ride on the Cash Cab.
