The First Weekend Of Summer

By Leslie Rupiper

Have you ever had one of those weekends where you wanted to accomplish so much, you didn't know how you were going to fit it all in? That's my situation on this Friday. Phil Schreck is forecasting a beautiful start to summer (it begins this evening), and I have big plans to enjoy it.  Even though I love to sleep in, tomorrow I'm going to try to get myself out of bed early enough to get to the Farmer's Market in town. I haven't been there yet this year, and am eager to see what's for sale.  Someone told me you can still buy tomato plants in pots, and since I didn't fulfill my plan of creating a "potted garden" this year, I might see if I can find one that's already on it's way at the Farmer's Market.

Then, Augustana College is hosting it's Nordland Fest. Since I'm marrying someone with Norwegian roots, fiance Thom and I might check it out this year.  There are arts, crafts, food and games. I think it sounds like a fun way to spend a couple of hours on a beautiful Saturday.  I also have three rolls of film that need to be developed from our trip to Colorado.  If there's more film, that means I have to get more scrapbooking done.  I'm still so very far behind, but it's time to get a little caught up.  Perhaps I can accomplish this while Thom's watching the Twins game.

For Easter, my brother and sister-in-law gave us a new picnic basket. This past week the Argus Leader featured an article about different types of picnics.  Thom saw it and asked, "When are we going to go on a picnic and use our new basket?"  When your fiance actually asks you to go on a picnic...that's a sign. You need to start planning an outing. So that's what I have on tap for Sunday. Throw in the usual cleaning and other errands, and it should make for a pretty full weekend.  I'm anxious to get it started.  I'll let you know just how much I get accomplished.

The comments I wrote about air conditioning were really meant from an earlier article you wrote---thought you would more likely see the comments from a mpre recent one. Sorry about that.

Hi Leslie, I'm with you and the heat. My air goes on usually sometime in May and usually doesn't go off until sometime in October. It's the best invention since birth control. By the way, I'm Ross Barnett's mom. I think you guys were friends( Kristi his wife of course too ) out in Idaho. Did you know they have moved to the Twin Cities? Have a great first day of summer and stay cool.
