A Domestic Weekend

By Leslie Rupiper

I hope you had a safe and happy holiday weekend.  While I would love to be able to blog about a weekend of adventure and drama, I have nothing of the sort. Instead, I had a weekend of pure domesticity.  I cleaned, I cooked, I took care of some flowers.  Before I knew it, the weekend was over.

I knew it was going to be hot, (thank goodness even Thom has the air conditioning running in his house!) but I still wanted to make some treats for Thom.  To avoid turning on the oven, I looked up some new recipes for unbaked goodies.  One wasn't much of a hit.  It was more of a glorified Rice Krispie treat, but made with different cereal, peanuts and rolled into a ball.  The other, Thom liked much better. It had an Oreo crust and top, cherry jello with maraschino cherries and whipped topping.  Unfortunately, I broke my own rule and turned on the oven when I realized Thom had 3 bananas that were very ripe.  Banana bread seemed to be the only option, so I went with it.

I also tackled another big project. I started scrapbooking my Ireland trip.  In September, it will have been one year since my friend Jenni and I visited the Emerald Isle.  I figured it's time to get my memories put into a book before they become any fainter.  Who knew the pressure I would feel by starting this book.  It's like this will be the official account of our time there, and I'm so afraid I'll mess it up.  I quit after about 12 pages, not because I was tired of it, but because I wasn't happy with some of the pages I'd done. I just felt like they should've been better. Hopefully I'll get a little less stressed out about this in the future. After all, it's supposed to be a hobby, and if I waste too much time putting it together, I'll just forget more of the precious details I'm trying hard to include.

We had lots of fun watching the Twins continue to win. They're really on a roll. It's neat to see three of players headed to the All-Star game.  If this keeps up, it could make for a very interesting October. Go Twins!
