Today, I'm sharing a little family news.  The other night Thom had a phone message from his dad, saying he'd just caught the biggest fish of his life.  It was a 23 inch Rainbow Trout that weighed close to 4 1/2 pounds.  The best part is that he caught it in the lake right outside their cabin in Colorado.  When Thom and I have visited Red Feather Lakes before, we've caught fish that were 15, 16 maybe even 17 inches long.  I never thought I would catch a fish that big, so I was plenty pleased when I reeled one in of that size.  I can't imagine what it must have felt like with a 23-incher on the line.  Thom's dad caught the fish on a tiny little fly, which makes it seem even more exciting. I couldn't wait for the pictures to arrive, and when they did today, I had to share one with you.

For now, this fish is chilling out...literally. Thom's mom and dad have it in the freezer.  They cleaned it very carefully, so there's still an opportunity to mount it.  Personally, I think they should.  Who knows if a fish this big will ever jump on the line again.  But even if a bigger one is still out there, just waiting for Thom's dad to catch it, he can always be reminded of the one that didn't get away.
