I haven't been a very good Husker fan in recent years. Ever since I moved to Sioux Falls, I have to admit I've lost touch with my Alma mater. It doesn't help when your fiance is from Colorado and can't stand the Big Red. I think the biggest detriment is that I can only see them when they're on national TV. Well, this weekend I'll get my chance. The Huskers play Virginia Tech, and the game will be on KSFY. I'm actually working tomorrow, but I plan to at least have it on in the background, so I can keep tabs on the score.
My other goal: to get fiance Thom to a Husker game. My friend Jenni, who lives in Lincoln, has decided she can't really see us get married until she knows Thom has experienced a game in Memorial Stadium. Right now, she's working on finding us tickets to the Nebraska vs. Baylor game next month. Thom's response, "Oh good, I have several weeks to put together an entire Baylor outfit!" He's probably only half-joking. Still, I have to believe that even he will be impressed by the sea of red that fills the stadium every home game in Lincoln. It's something I took for granted after going to school their for four years. But now that I've been away, I'm truly appreciating the school spirit.
So, until we get to a game, I'll be cheering from here in South Dakota, and hoping I can be a better fan in the months ahead.
