Wedding Registry: The Great Debate

By Leslie Rupiper

Yesterday, fiance Thom and I registered for our wedding. It's something I've been thinking about ever since he proposed. I know that sounds awful, but it's just so exciting to me.  Thom does not share my feelings at all. In fact, I think he would have preferred just skipping the tradtion altogether.  In the past, I've written a blog about my anxiety over what to register for.  But  yesterday, my concern switched to the process itself.  When I would daydream about registering, I'd imagine taking that little scanner and running it across ever bar code of every household item I'd ever wanted. In the end, it wasn't really like that at all.

Don't get me wrong, Thom was a real trouper. He didn't complain, and did his best to oblige me. I saved him the pain of registering for my china. My mom was kind enough to help me out with that. But that left everything else on the list, and Thom and I had a pretty big task in front of us yesterday.  I tried to get his opinion on things. I didn't want to select items he didn't think we needed. But sometimes, the poor guy just didn't have an opinion on stuff.  Maybe if we were registering for Minnesota Twins memorabilia, things would have been different. But really, how excited could he get about a spice rack? (I did put one on the list, by the way).

Even though the experience wasn't quite what I'd envisioned, it did make the wedding itself seem that much closer. And that's what I'm most excited about anyway.
