In Ken's Footsteps

By Phil Schreck

Former KSFY Weatherman Ken Hirsch passed away recently. I was quite saddened by the news. I never worked with Ken, but I talked with him several times at various events. He always seemed to be in a great mood and couldn't have been friendlier.
Ken was working at another station when I moved to Sioux Falls in 1988 and I really enjoyed watching him do the weather. I loved his smooth delivery and folksy style of presenting the forecast. Our main male anchor at the time, Tom Rooney, told me that Ken worked at KSFY for many years and I heard quite a few stories about Ken's fun-loving personality.
When I heard a while back that he had Alzheimer's, I immediately said a prayer for him and his family. My mother-in-law passed away from that terrible disease two years ago so I know what it can do to a person and his/her family.
I'm proud to walk in, but not fill, Ken's footsteps here at KSFY.
