Tonight's Lunar Eclipse

By Phil Schreck

For astronomy buffs, tonight (February 20) is a big night.  There's going to be a total lunar eclipse!  The earth will be passing directly between the sun and the moon and so our planet will be casting a shadow on our nearest celestial neighbor.
Unfortunately, it looks like our weather won't be the greatest for viewing the last total lunar eclipse until 2010.  That's because clouds will be working their way into our area tonight.
For those of you lucky enough to have the clouds hold off long enough, here are the particulars.  A partial eclipse will begin at 7:43 p.m. CST.  The total eclipse begins at 9:01 p.m. and ends at 9:51 p.m.  The moon will totally emerge from the earth's shadow at 11:09 p.m. Click HERE for a look a detailed lunar eclipse graphic.
