Sushi is one of my favorite foods. It all started back in the late '70s when I lived in Seoul, Korea. My dad was in the Army and we were stationed there for a couple of years. I know, I know, sushi isn't a Korean dish. But I had some Japanese friends who lived in Korea and was introduced to sushi by them. I also was lucky enough to spend about a week in Tokyo for a high school basketball tournament. So, I guess you could say I was in sushi heaven at that point in my life!
The point of this blog is that you can get some pretty darned good sushi right here in Sioux Falls. Of the sushi restaurants now in business here in town, Sushi Masa was the first and it is awesome. It's as good as anything I ever ate in Korea or Japan. I haven't been to the new Tokyo Restaurant which just opened recently so I can't speak for that establishment. Sushi Masa is great, but it's also not cheap. So, unfortunately, I don't make it there as often as I'd like. However, I did discover sushi at the Hy Vee grocery store on east 10th Street. While it's not the quallity of what you'd find at Sushi Masa, it's really not bad at all. And, since I'm a Catholic, I'll usually pick some up on Fridays and still have some money left in my wallet.
