I'm much happier with my eyes closed.

So here's a great reason to get a little extra shut-eye today. It's National Napping Day. Don't believe me? Here's an article about it.
I have to say I've never heard of it, but I think it pretty much rocks. I'm thinking about writing President Bush about making it a national holiday. If not that, at least a federal mandate that people take naps today. It's that important. Maybe not, but still, it's awesome.
It was created in 1999 by some smart people (one might call them genius) at Boston University because they wanted to raise awareness to the health benefits of napping. They say it helps with cardiovascular health, mood, and productivity. Bonus. It's held the first day after the time switch.
I've known that naps are awesome for years. I first started my love of naps in high school. I'd come back from football or baseball practice and crash on the couch for an hour before supper. Then on the weekends I'd always fall asleep sometime during the 3rd quarter of the Vikings game, once we were losing so bad the game was worthless anyway.
Then my love of naps followed me into my college years. My passion for shut-eye led me to miss some classes, and cost me a few grade levels to be sure, but have I mentioned the health benefits? Who am I to let classes get in the way of being healthier? I graduated didn't I?
Now that I'm in my career, I still like naps a lot. They're even more enjoyable now that I get up so early. I may die without a nap during the day. Naps are a big part of my life, and will continue to be throughout my lifetime no doubt.
So lay your head on your keyboard for a power nap today. If your boss asks you what you're doing just simply tell them, "Come on, I'm working on my heart health, and it's a national holiday, stupid."
So enjoy that nap today, I know I will.
