Jacks vs. Gophers

By Chris Studer

Tonight people in Sioux Falls have a rare opportunity to see college baseball at its finest. The Jackrabbits of South Dakota State University take on the Gophers of the University of Minnesota at the Birdcage tonight at 6:30 p.m. The U of M has one of the best baseball programs in the country, and SDSU is turning into a real Division I contender in baseball.

I'm an SDSU Baseball alum, so I'm a bit biased. I have to admit though that I was skeptical of the chances we would have moving to the Division I level. It's cold here, and indoor practice facilities are limited at State. But Coach Reggie Christiansen has turned the program into one that can compete with anyone. The Jacks have played the Gophers three times already, and have lost all three, but only by a total of 4 runs. So they can play with the Big Ten, and could have a really good shot at a win tonight at a "home" venue like Sioux Falls.

So if you're not doing anything tonight, come on out to the stadium. You'll get to see some great baseball, and support the Jackrabbits as they continue to get better in their move to the big time.
