Erika Leigh joined the KSFY News team as a reporter in January 2017.
She's thrilled to call the Mount Rushmore state her new home and report here.
Prior to coming to KSFY, Erika was a writer and producer at FOX61 in Hartford, Connecticut. Her previous station had the same motto as KSFY: Expect More and she promises to deliver by giving Sioux Falls and its surrounding communities the news it expects and much more.
Erika grew up just outside Springfield, Massachusetts and is a graduate of Westfield State University. Go Owls! She also spent her freshman year at Penn State University and regularly cheers on her Nittany Lions.
Erika's path to journalism is a storied one that started with discovering a passion for news and sports while living in New York City trying to make her way to the Great White Way. Broadway never quite happened, but as she tells it, "journalism found her." When she returned back to Massachusetts, she worked as a freelance sports reporter for several years for a local newspaper where she covered high school football and basketball, AHL hockey and D-League basketball. Erika also had the chance to tell the amazing stories of Olympian Gail Devers and the first woman to ever run the Boston Marathon, Kathrine Switzer, when they visited Western Mass. Erika also worked for Bruins Daily, an independent media company that exclusively covers the Boston Bruins, where she co-anchored and produced a weekly web series about the team.
Erika is a foodie, loves to cook, has too many lipsticks and is hopelessly addicted to coffee. She's an only child, but has a yorkiepoo named Izzie, who's living back at home with her parents.
The news never stops, but sometimes journalists get a break. When Erika's not reporting, she's an avid hiker and swimmer. Erika also runs a fashion, beauty and DIY blog in her spare time. In her spare time, she loves to watch her favorite teams -- the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots -- and is still in denial about Big Papi's retirement.
Erika is excited to explore Sioux Falls and tell your stories. Got a news tip or something she should know about? Send her an email, or connect with her on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
