2 Gary women identified as victims in fatal crash near Clear Lake

CLEAR LAKE, S.D. – Two women from Gary, South Dakota have been identified as those who were killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash east of Clear Lake.

According to the Department of Public Safety, a 1998 Lincoln Town Car was westbound on South Dakota Highway 22 just before 8:15 a.m. when the vehicle slid into the eastbound lane where it was hit by an on-coming 2016 Peterbilt Prostar.

Both the driver, 83-year-old June Kallhoff, and the passenger, 86-year-old Celia Bouvette, were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. It is unknown at this time whether they were wearing seatbelts, according to the DPS.

Fifty-six-year-old Rodney Buffington of Holland, Minnesota was the driver of the semi. He was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, according to the DPS.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Deuel County Sheriff’s Office.
