25-year-old man killed in two-vehicle crash near Belle Fourche Friday

BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. - Authorities say a 25-year-old man was killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash that occurred east of Belle Fourche.

The names of those involved have not yet been released.

According to the Department of Public Safety, a 1999 Ford F-350 pickup was westbound on South Dakota Highway 34 around 7 a.m. when the driver tried to pass a pickup hauling a flatbed trailer and struck an eastbound 2007 Volkswagon Jetta.

The driver of the Jetta was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt, the DPS said.

The 24-year-old male driver of the pickup sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Spearfish hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt, the DPS said.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and Spearfish Ambulance
