75-year-old man arrested for alleged sexual contact with child in 2012

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Police in Sioux Falls say a 75-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly having sexual contact with a minor several years ago.

Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said David Ross Hirsch was arrested by the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office Wednesday on a warrant for sexual contact with a child under 16 years old.

He is being held on a $50,000 cash bond.

Clemens said the alleged abuse happened back in 2012 when Hirsch was around 70 years old and the victim was nine years old.

According to an interview with Child's Voice included in court documents, the victim said she visited Hirsch in his garage workshop in the 1900 block of Shellyn Drive where the incident happened sometime between June 1, 2012 and September 30, 2012.

The victim said she went to the workshop one day when Hirsch was working on a project. She sat with him for a short time before getting up to leave because she was bored.

At this time, she said Hirsch began massaging her shoulders and that it felt "weird." She then tried to leave, but said Hirsch allegedly pulled her back to him.

According to court documents, Hirsch then allegedly put his hand down her pants and touched her inappropriately on her frontside and backside. She asked him what he was doing, and he allegedly responded that he was "playing."

The victim said he eventually stopped and smiled as he left the workshop.

In an interview with the Sioux Falls Police Department included in court documents, Hirsch told officers that he "gave her a hug" and touched the victim over her pants.

He told the detective that he thought the incident was okay because the victim did not pull away, according to court documents.

The victim told Child's Voice that she was originally going to wait to tell her mother about the incident after Hirsch died, but decided to talk about it because of the media coverage surrounding sexual assault allegations.

During the time of the incident, Hirsch and his wife ran an in-home daycare.

As an issue of transparency for our readers we want to let you know that Hirsch is a former employee of KSFY Television but according to court documents filed in the case his alleged crime has no connection to KSFY.
