Lake County, SD (KSFY) Absentee voting is now underway in Lake County for a special election on a new property tax.
Voters will decide whether or not to approve a proposed levy tax that would add 90 cents per one thousand dollars of property value.
County commissioners say the tax is needed to pay for improvements to roads and bridges.
The tax levy would start during the 2017 calendar year for taxes payable in 2018.
"I would just assume see it go to a vote rather than let the county commission decide what to do; I think they need to vote on it," Madison resident Leo Blanchette said.
The special election will take place on September 26th in Lake County but people can vote absentee until September 25th.
