ADRIAN, MN - Renovations started in February for the library in Adrian, MN and workers finished up the building the second week of July. Meredith Vaselaar, the librarian, said Nobles County paid for the building renovations to make sure it stayed up to code. Then, a fundraiser helped pay for the shelving, desks, and extra amenities for the new library.
The fundraiser started in July of 2016 and the goal was to raise $80,000. The library reached that in March of 2017 and even exceeded it. The total is now more than $84,000.
The grand re-opening of the library is Friday, which coincides with the town's annual celebration. The library hours are extended from 11:00 AM until 7:00 PM. Nobles County Commissioner Gene Metz will start out with a speech at 11:00 AM. Author William Kent Krueger, who sets many of his books in Minnesota, signed a few of his novels, which will be available for people to win a copy that day. Cookies and beverages will also be served all day. The town's annual Rims and Ribs event will start that night at 5:30 PM and people are encouraged to attend both events. All of the money raised will go back towards Adrian and the surrounding community.
