Volunteers are needed to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
David and Debbie Franssens are on their way to Texas right now. The couple left this morning to help out.
Jennifer Ross, the Executive Director of Eastern South Dakota Red Cross, says training is needed for deployment.
A training session for volunteers will be Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at American Red Cross in Sioux Falls. See attached map for directions.
As of today 13 people from the American Red Cross, Sioux Empire chapter have been sent to Texas, and people from this chapter, will be needed for the months to come.
"It is stressful to be in that situation, to know that our limits to what we can provide for them just because we can't replace their homes and personal property and things like that. We spend a lot of time, at least I know I do, crying, because you do hurt for them," Debbie Franssens said.
If you are able to volunteer and give 14 days of your time to help hurricane victims, the Red Cross covers all travel, food and lodging. Pre-registration for the training is required, see the attached link for more information.
