Sioux Falls, SD (KSFY) The annual German Christmas Service was held at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls Sunday afternoon, carrying on a touching tradition for many German families living in the area.
The German Christmas service has been held in Sioux Falls for more than 30 years, giving people who grew up with German Christmas carols and traditions a chance to feel more at home this holiday season.
“The first time I went to one I cried a lot, because it feels like the home you miss and it comes back and you get homesick and stuff; it’s really nice to hear these songs and it just brings Christmas back in your heart," Event Organizer Judith Nelson said.
While many of the attendees may be decades removed from Germany, they hope to share their childhood Christmas traditions with the next generation.
The event also includes tradition German Christmas goodies after the service. An offering is collected at the annual Christmas service to help fund next year’s German Christmas celebration.
