As Valentine's Day approaches, flower shop owner of 32 years isn't stressing

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Josephine's at 8th and Railroad in Sioux Falls is ready for the biggest day of the year for a flower shop. Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and at Josephine's people can hand-pick their flowers.

Josephine Schallenkamp has run the store for 32 years.

"I started actually on Valentine's Day when I was a freshman in high school, wrapping deliveries, and it just kind of grew from there," she said.

Schallenkamp has an eye for detail, and a clientele that knows what it wants.

"Sioux Falls has been great to me. Business is great, and we have such a loyal baseline of clients," she said.

"I think the biggest difference with us is the style. We use a lot of the novelty flowers you don't usually see," she said.

Right now the fresh flowers come from around the world, but in the summer it's a different story, come June and July an Iowa grower helps out.

"She comes up in a big trailer, and you can pick out your flowers," Josephine said

For Valentine's Day, Josephine says she no longer gets stressed out, but she does recommend, "for your florist's sake," to plan ahead when it comes to ordering flowers.

Josephine's does offer classes. Check out the attached link for more information.
