According to Sheriff Dan Limoges a 27-year-old man disappeared Wednesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. at Burbank Beach near Elk Point.
Limoges says the man went underwater after stepping off a sandbar and never resurfaced. Crews focused their search Wednesday a mile downstream from where the incident occurred. The North Sioux City Police Department, Nebraska Department of Natural Resources and South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks had crews assisting in the search.
This is the third drowning incident at Burbank Beach in the past three years. Two years ago USD student Brant Blaha also drowned while swimming at the same location.
