Avera Medical Minute AMcK: Avera Now virtual visit saves time and money

Online doctor visits are expected to sky-rocket in the next decade. By 2024, they’re likely to surpass the brick-and-mortar setting for doctor visits.

AveraNow connects patients to a medical professional in minutes, either on your smart phone or tablet or at one of the AveraNow kiosks inside every Sioux Falls Hy-Vee.

As one Sioux Falls mother explains, it was simple to use.

“With both the kids and working full time, having the options of popping in and popping out was a life-saver,” said Mary Schilling.

A very busy mom, Schilling used the AveraNow Kiosk inside Hy-Vee for the first time when both and she and her husband had strep throat.

“The description on what you need to do, where you need to push and what you need to do was really easy to follow. I wanted to get in. I wanted to get out however I can get my prescription and be on my way,” said Schilling.

They were back home in no time and on the road to feeling better faster.

“I think we all know when we go in, whether we’re going in with an appointment or you’re going in as a walk-in, you never know how long it’s going to take if they’re running behind,” said Schilling.

“In the future, if you look at every industry out there, everything seems to be going to the ease of the consumer -- so we’re trying to make that happen as well. You can be shopping and you can sneak into the kiosk at one of the Hy-Vee stores and be seen. The real benefit to me is at home. If you are a single parent or a busy parent -- which all parents are -- and you don’t feel like you have time to go zip over to urgent care or the doctor during the daytime, you can just pick up your phone and download the app if you don’t have it downloaded already. And within minutes, you can be seen by a doctor or a nurse practitioner and that’s 24/7,” said Dr. Jason Knutson, family medicine physician.

“To get health care on your phone and talk to a PA, an NP, MD or DO -- you can’t beat it and at a reasonable price,” said Schilling.

The cost of an AveraNow virtual visit is just $49.

The Schilling family is back to their healthy selves and back to doing the things that really matter, spending time as a family.
