Boy killed in crash near Brookings

BROOKINGS, S.D. (KSFY) - A six-year-old boy has died from his injuries following a two vehicle crash in Brookings County.

The accident happened Wednesday, March 7 on U.S. Highway 14 about three miles east of Brookings.

According to Department of Public Safety Spokesman Tony Mangan, a car was headed west when the driver lost control on the ice-covered road. The vehicle slid into the eastbound lane and collided with an oncoming semi truck.

All three people inside the car were hurt in the accident. Six-year-old Ethan Rosa of Aurora received life-threatening injuries; he died over the weekend at a Sioux Falls hospital. A 10-month-old male also received life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized. The 27-year-old female driver also received serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi truck was not hurt. Troopers say everyone involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
