BROOKINGS, S.D. (KSFY) - People in Brookings celebrated the grand opening of a new community bike trail.
The trail specifically designed for mountain bikes has been six years in the making.
From gravel to grass, bridges and logs, the trail includes different textures for mountain bikers to improve their skills.
"My personal drive was this was another sport we can bring to Brookings and it's a way that we can get kids off their computers and get outside and enjoy the environment," Curtis Kabris with Brookings Mountain Bike Association said.
The trail begins at the Southbrook Softball Complex and runs for about two miles.
It is the first of several new bike trail improvements planned in Brookings.
