City of Sioux Falls says snow removal decisions are based on public safety

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Sioux Falls has seen some snowy days over the last several weeks.

And while the City has been busy clearing roads and applying salt and sand where needed following Saturday's snowfall, a snow alert has yet to be declared this season.

City officials said the amount of snow and the consistency of the snow over the weekend did not warrant a snow alert to be issued.

The city's snow removal decisions are made based on the volume, duration and consistency of the snow.

The decision not to plow residential areas and not to declare a snow alert saved the city hundreds of thousands of dollars, but city officials said it's safety, not savings, that prompts that decision.
