Crazy Horse memorial provides cultural learning experience with dances

(KSFY) - The following story is part of KSFY's One Day Getaway:

Many visitors might not know it, but Crazy Horse is also much more than just a memorial.

It has become a Native American cultural gathering point and learning center for visitors. The memorial often hosts special shows and dances, including performances by the White River Apache Crown Dancers.

The director of cultural affairs at Crazy Horse said these shows really help take history off the page.

"Naturally, our mission is the preservation and protection of the story of Native American history and culture, and the way to really bring that to life is to include cultural performances within our institution and on the grounds here," Andrew Dunehoo said.

Crazy Horse also offers outreach education programs to develop Native American cultural projects in collaboration with communities.
